Faith
The air breathes in, like clam shells
and mussels.
And out of breath is a good joke that transcends ages.
My curled up cat – comical and crazy
versus their labradoodle, huge and gentle.
There's something in the quilts,
and the oatmeal-lumped pillows,
a scent of the wood paneling and wet sand,
of warm blueberry pie and cold FarFar's vanilla.
And no matter how many times I lose faith,
I always find it again – in the blanket of a wave,
the shell of a hermit crab, or the hug of a mother.
